What Joshua Doss says here make a lot of sense. We've got to foster positive examples for young men to aspire in community to fight against the negative influences that fosters toxic types to manifest. I firmly believe too that the same logic he explains here also applies to Veterans and getting sucked into the maga bullshit.
What I mean is, today there's a false narrative of sorts out there that "all Veterans / Military are maga". It's total BS.
However, the campaign to project that image was very effective and a vacuum of sorts within the Veteran community about our identity allowed for maga to kind of "culturally appropriate" the Veteran / Military identity.
There hasn't been any sort of large Veterans voice on politics and social justice in America that says "we're the veteran identity" as a group or as a declaration of the Veteran identity within our culture. The reality is, that identity is diverse. It is not all white bred southern country boys. The U.S. Military is folks of every shade and persuasion. It is America, through and through. maga stole that reality because we weren't talking about it.
Our silence as the diverse group of Veterans that we are - as 7% of the popular vote - of what our identity is as citizens who once took our oaths and what we stand for here at home as a national political presence allowed the maga marketing machine to "steal" the "patriot" identity for their BS.
Giving the Veteran voice a political place to exist where one didn't exist before, and therefore calling Veterans to community with each other was very effective for maga to be able to bring people into supporting them who really might have done it more for the community than the support of the actually shitty ideals of magats.
This is part of why we, Veterans Against Tyranny, exist: to set the true standard of the Veteran identity in our culture straight! It is one that values diversity and meritocracy, unity, cohesion, sacrifice, duty, accountability, care, and strong moral character.
We need to bring our "out of step" people back to community amongst the ranks of us that served, rather than supporting the grifts of a draft dodger.
