Know Your Rights

If the police or government agents appear at your door:

You do not have to open it.

You do not have to step outside.

You do not have to engage in conversation.

Tell them to slide the warrant under the door or hold it up to the window so you can read it. If they cannot produce a signed judicial warrant with your correct name and address, they have no legal authority to enter. If they produce a copy of the warrant under the door or at the window be ready to snap a photo and quickly resend that photo to a trusted person or attorney.

State clearly:

“I do not consent to any searches. I do not answer questions without my attorney present. You are not authorized to enter.”

Then stop talking!

Turn on your phone and record everything; audio and video, from first contact to departure. This is your evidence if the encounter becomes unlawful, coercive, or misrepresented later.

Do not explain.

Do not argue.

Do not justify.

Do not negotiate.

Silence is not obstruction.

Refusal is not resistance.

It is your protection.

If enforcement is operating outside of the law, documentation is your shield and counsel is your defense.

Do not get upset nor do you become so courteous that you end up saying something that may incriminate you. Every question they ask you without a warrant, you do not have to answer.

Complete and utter Silence is your best friend.
